Just as a matter of information in case you don't know:

Final Cut Pro 4 will soon be out and will cost $1000 US.  Final Cut Express is available
now for $300 US.
If you buy FCE now, and then decide that you want FCP4, you can go to the Apple Site to
the Apple store and there is an upgrade path from FCE to FCP4 of $700.  So it is a win
win for you if you want to find out if FCE does what you need it to.
