iMovie import interruptions

iMovie 3, converting analog Hi8 to digital. I have imported several of 
my videos. I have a couple, however, that are giving me problems.

I start the import, it goes for about 20-30 seconds, shows 9 minutes on 
the clip and stops. It doesn’t just start another clip -- I have to hit 
Import again. This makes for impossible smoothness of the movie.

I have restarted iMovie and the video camera in several series, but 
nothing seems to solve the problem.
