Can't comment on the rest of your message but you might want to take a look at your LCD projector. Many of them have inputs for video. You might have a 3rd option for showing your project which is connecting your DVD player to the LCD projector and showing it on the big screen without the distractions of computer desktops and mouse arrows.

Hi,

I'm working on a DVD project to give new employees an overview of this
company. I'm combining photographs, narrated audio, and some music clips in
iMovie, then taking the segments into iDVD for the final presentation. It
will be shown both on a pc laptop through a new lcd projector and on a tv
screen hooked up to a DVD player.
