I use a Sony DCR PC 9, it is a mini DV camera and I have been very happy with it over the two years that I have had it. I think that the video looses quality on large screens but I believe that it has more to do with the mpg compression than the camera. I believe that it is the compression because even scanned photos loose quality. It is especially noticeable in faces, people in the background have no distinguishable facial features and vibrant colours seem muted. Viewing similar scenes from a commercially made DVD you are able to see the facial features. I realize that the lighting in those productions is optimized, cameras are of much higher quality and post production efforts are huge factors in the final product. Maybe saying it is VHS quality was overly harsh but all the same the video looses a lot of quality when viewed on a large screen when compared to a smaller screen. I guess there is no wow factor.
