IDVD 4 and non-SuperDrive DVD Burners vs. Toast

I'm thinking about buying iLife or Toast to burn DVDs.

Is it possible to burn DVD's using iDVD 4 on a Mac with an external,
non-SuperDrive?  If so, is there a list of drives the will/won't work you
can point me to?  Thanks.
