cleaner 5 vs. 6 w/ mpeg1

Anyone experienced w/ encoding from mpeg1 using cleaner? 5 or 6?

I did see in the docs that V.6 requires a stereo mpeg1 or it wont work -
but the report I get from a freind is that the same file that won't
encode in 6 wih encode in 5.

Can anyone confirm? This seems odd to say the least.
