[MacDV] iMovie sharing: Losing sound between clips

I have been having problems with iMovie generating both a DVD and a
Quicktime DV file that has a very short (my guess 1-5 frames) where the
sound just drops out between clips. This wouldn't normally be a problem but
when a 1 hour movie has a bunch of short (<10sec) clips it becomes very
noticable.

The problem is not apparent while editin in iMovie or when it is shared back
to the camera. Only when it is compressed into a Quicktime movie or burned
to DVD with iDVD.

I checked the archives and couldn't find any similar questions.

So, far I have:
Trashed iMovie preferences
Deleted the reference movie
Duplicated the project folder to eliminate any disk fragmentation
Rendered all the clips and emptied the project trash file

I'm still getting DVDs with the little silent spot between clips.

Any ideas out there?
