[MacDV] iDVD4 Movie Loop

How long can a video loop be in the back ground of an iDVD4 theme/menu?

I had a 2 minute loop in the main menu theme, however when I went to 
Preview mode the audio of the loop shortly became greatly out of sync 
with the video of the loop.  I was able to correct it by shortening the 
loop to 30 seconds.  In retrospect, I now think that maybe the cause 
was using Preview while background encoding was checked??

So . . .  original question, and any ideas?
