Anyone looking for a smooth experience would do well to stay clear of voice recognition. If I didn't have a disability limiting my typing, I wouldn't use ViaVoice OR iListen. They just don't work well enough or consistently enough. That said, I find VV more accurate and much easier to make corrections with than iListen (even with the much improved recently released version 1.6). On the other hand, VV won't make corrections unless one uses their proprietary SpeakPad wordprocessor, whereas iListen will make corrections anywhere. VV seems to "break" occasionally, requiring hair-tearing efforts to repair (for those who experience the breaks)--see posts on this list. But it has never completely broken for me... Customer support is nearly invisible with VV, better with iListen (via the MacSpeech listserv, anyway). Transcribing previously recorded audio files from tape or CD is probably not possible with reasonable accuracy. This is one man's opinion...YMMV Robert On 6/16/03 8:07 AM, "Rebecca J.Hoffman" <rebecca at syracusenet.net> wrote: > Sorry to pop in on somebody else's question, but I am in a similar > position and would also like advice. > > I would like to be able to transcribe previously recorded audio files, > either on tape or CD. > > I am also interested in iListen's claim to be able to transcribe from a > digital voice recorder.
