The same problem occurs with the PC versions of speech recognition software like
Dragon NaturallySpeaking, IBM ViaVoice, and Microsoft Speech. As you surmised,
it's almost always an issue with the microphone or audio setup.

A good noise canceling microphone positioned off the corner of one's mouth about
1 inch, will minimize the problem.
