First, verify the microphone is working properly. You can do this in the Sound System Preference.

	1). Select "System Preferences" from the Apple menu or your Dock.
	
	2). Click on the "Sound" icon.

	3). Click on the "Input" tab near the top.

	4). Select your microphone from the list of devices.

You should then be able to adjust the Input volume and see movement in the signal meter when you speak. 

If your device is not listed, try unplugging it and plugging it back in. You might also try a different USB port. Also, if your microphone has a USB adapter into which its audio jacks are inserted, make sure they are in the right holes.

If you checked all of the above and your device is listed but does not make a sound, the microphone is probably shot (although you might want to take it to your local Apple dealership and have them confirm it for you). 

If you CAN get sound in the Sound System Preference, then try creating a new profile in MacSpeech Dictate.
