That's a very good question. Why did the whole of OpenDoc get 
discontinued? Only Apple can answer that, I think, and I doubt they 
will. Apparently the press release stating the discontinuation is no 
longer available at apple.com/pr/. Here is a press release from the 
CyberDog 2.0 release which at least outlines why it was so good. Though 
you really have to use it to really get it.

At that time, I think both OpenDoc and CyberDog had been officially 
placed in maintenance mode.
