[Ti] Slow keyboard

How sweet it is! I can type normally again. Perhaps one of our cracks
can explain the nitty gritty. Here's the story:
I had installed an APC PowerChute battery back-up. Then it dawned on me
that a PowerBook has its own battery! So I disconnected it. But each
time I would restart, I'd get a dialogue box telling me that I needed
to connect the UPS. Now that I have scoured my Prefs and PrefPanes
(Library), I'm back to normal keyboard response. I also trashed
Macaroni prefs as I tried it and decided I did not need it.
Does this make a case for Uninstallers to be included with software
installers?
I'd love to hear the background to this scenario, and perhaps warnings
against arbitrarily trashing prefs, as I did,
