Third party wireless driver

I've just purchased a Lucent Orinoco Gold Card since I was frustrated with
the Airport Card's reception range in my 667 TiBook.  Following up on advice
from the list, I've tried ioexperts' driver and the driver found at
wirelessdriver.sourceforge.net.  However, so far I am unconvinced that these
drivers offer the transparent functionality of the Apple product.  Has
anyone had more success with other drivers out there?  Namely, I'm trying to
connect computer-to-computer with another mac acting as an airport base
station, and also verious linksys routers and pc networks.  The airport card
picked up on all these automatically, but now I'm stuck trying to configure
network addresses every time I pick up and go to a new location.  Any help
or recommendations?
