Well, it's not a necessity by any means, but if you or someone you know sends you a video that's encoded with 3gpp, you'll need this to view the files. I just recently purchased a Nokia 3650, which records videos as .3gpp files. and quicktime plays them back just fine. If you have quicktime pro, then you can export them .mov files. -Neil
