[OT] Problems running classic

Sorry about the OT post --

The environment:

G4 1gig tower.

mac OS 10.2.4

we've done a totally clean install of OS 10 out of the box, and 
installed classic afterwards (all from the software restore CDs in the 
box)....

the problem:

when we try to run classic we get:

resource update error
An error occurred while attempting to update your system folder with 
Classic-specific resources.

It sounds to me like some kind of permissions problem trying to read 
these "resources"...the problem is i have no idea what the "resources" 
are and more importantly where they are ...

I've looked on support.apple and on google, but no joy as yet.

Anyone have any ideas?
