Ray - Disk Warrior (I only have the version that works in OS9) is the only utility that I know that can fix this kind of problem. After rebuilding the directory with it, I rebuild the desktop, restart, and then it should be OK. But it sounds like you have something more profound happening. From the way you wrote your note, it really does concern me that you may not have a backup of your files. This is something that I wrote about endlessly on this list. Everyone who has files that "are really important" MUST have a back up. I back my entire Ti-500 up (incremental) every night using Retrospect remote to an external USB hard disk. Then in the worst case (like yours seems to be) you have only lost one day's work. If you do not have a backup system, buy it before the sun goes down....... regards, Trevor
