Panther install problems

The first CD installed just fine. The second CD quit part way through with
an alert that said there was a software error and I had to quit.

So I tried to install the files directly from the .pkg file on Disk 2. Again
it stalled about half way through and stopped with the same software error
alert.

So, I seem to have about three quarters of Panther installed and have no
idea what to do next.

Any ideas?
