I understand that you can change a player's region code up to five 
times. After that you might try to download new firmware (which may 
or may not be available for your player).

DVDbackup (e.g. http://versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/18599) 
can copy without region code so you can even play the movie from your 
harddisk, or copy it to another region code. The program is well 
documented, and gave me much needed pointers about other protections
