To accumulate pictures, why is Internet access necessary. A CD burner in an iBook will provide enough capacity to mail home hundreds of pictures, won't it? No need to worry about processing of film and you know you have good photos before you send them home. No need to worry about processing and printing. The journal can be backed up to CD multiple times and mailed home with the pictures. A spare battery for both the camera and the iBook will provide power enough between recharge opportunities. Electricity should be just about everywhere. A disadvantage is if she's walking a lot and would prefer not to carry the extra 10-12 pounds of iBook and accessories. There's also the theft potential and the possibility of breakdown that would have to be dealt with. But she will be able to write a lot more a lot more quickly with a keyboard than a pen and will be able to insert pictures in the journal as it is written if that is of interest. -- Dennis Fazio dfz at mac.com
