Its not that difficult: (short version)
remove the battery
unscrew the bottom plate
remove the hard drive
&remove the spring clip holding the latch.

Unfortunately the part is $50 used and $80 or so from Apple as  
reported on  various lists.
Small Dog electronics sells used latches from time to time.
