I bought this drive for my Ti 1 GHz to replace the original superdrive...The OWC superdrive is a Matsushita 845S and it is great. Easy install...works flawlessly. DL, 8x DVD-R, etc. All the DVDs I have burned have worked in any DVD that I have encountered. Great upgrade. Not sure where your friend found it is not very compatible. It totally is compatible and is basically the same drive Apple shipped but without Apple's firmware restrictions. This is the original factory drive with the factory firmware. It is great!
