No!  You did the right thing.  I misspoke when I said trash keychain.  
I should have said its preferences, and data files.
Sorry  If all of your mail accounts but one are acting correctly, I'm 
at a loss.  I think I remember that some folks have deleted an account 
and rebuilt it, to fix problems.
