Not dumb. You'd be amazed how many people forget it.

Sounds like what you want is the other way around -- the Mac to share 
files with the PC. Have you turned Windows File Sharing on? Have you 
disabled the firewall for Windows File Sharing? Have you enabled the 
respective user to log in from Windows?
