OK incase anyone else come across this - a directory in my cache folder (/Users/<me>/Library/Caches/Safri/) was corrupt. Moving them into the trash solved that problem. Now however I cannot delete this directory. The Finder says it's busy (even after restarting). The Terminal says that the directory is not empty (it is most definitely empty) even to rm -r as root... So I guess this is a disk tools or Norton thing.
