mail help

hey folks

for os 10.2
i am having a problem with mail
i can't delete and address from my address book
or get that address out of a distribution list
i've tried to 'delete'
and tried to drag the address
out of the distribution list (into the regular list only)
and tried to drag it to the trash
nothing works
and then searching mail help
yields nothing with
delete email address
delete email from address book
remove email from address book
etc
