[X-Newbies] Problems setting Proteus as my default IM.

I have run into problems setting Proteus as my default IM. I understand that
one has to go into iChat prefs and change the default there. However, when I
click on iChat I get the following error message:
"You cannot use this version of the application iChat with this version of
Mac OS X."

I have OS X 10.5.5 and iChat 3.1.9 on a G5 single. I wonder if this has
something to do with my earlier Leopard install problems?

I also have RCDefaultApp installed, but weirdly enough there is no "chat"
option.
