Ok, I'm sorry, I was wrong to say the sound card, although it has been a mediator on old software (I do remember it being the only method to extract audio files some years agom, from Windows, when I didn't have access to more sophisticated software). But like I said before, the operating system only copies what is fed to it by its source (be it the sound card or the drive's firmware). Most applications (or OS APIs) do not bother to call direct raw-read methods. But, ok, I'll give up. I'm certainly not an expert on this matter, so I'll shut up. :) dZ.
