iDVD doesn't recognize external burners, usually. You could swap the
hardware -- put the DV109 in your G4 (and install PatchBurn if you're not
using Tiger, as the DVR109 is supported in Tiger) and the OEM DVD from your
G4 in an external enclosure -- and burn to your DV109 that way.

or you can try one of the "hacks" that's floating about on the 'Net. I
googled for iDVD external DVD burn and found these:
