[X4U] Ethernet PCI card replacement

Hello,

I might need to buy a Ethernet PCI card to take the place of a bad Ethernet
port on a G3/233 desktop.

Can someone tell me if I can use the cards that Staples or Office depot
sells? The card does not have to be made for a Mac does it? Network cards
are generic correct?
