I had a bad crash in my previous TiBook and I had to recover 70Mb of unbacked-up data. I could connect to the TiBook in FW target mode, but I did not have accees to the folders. Probably the directory was damaged and the only way I found to rescue them was DataRescueX: http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/1133 It saved my 70Mb... though it did not work at recovering a 600Mb disk image file After recovering the files I just reformatted the HD and everything went fine...
