[X4U] DVD-R in Tiger

So, I insert a blank DVD-R, and no longer am I asked what I want to  
do, the DVD icon appears at the bottom of the left hand sidebar in  
Finder window... Not above the line like I expect it to... And it  
also appears on the Desktop, even though the Finder Preferences  
indicate that this should not occur.

Any one have and/or solve this?

I am now going thru the restart/repair permissions dance to see if  
that fixes it.
