Sweet!  I wrote most of this in Perl yesterday, but hadn't gotten it 
quite finished.

I just tried this with a mostly loaded system and starting up the 
additional apps I normally have running.  I'll have to see about 
shutting down tonight and seeing how much it says I need.  In fact 
I'll have to try it under a couple of load types.  With just the 
basic test I tried this morning it's obvious I need more than 512MB 
(which I already knew).
