Interesting, I have MenuMeters running and have the Used/Free RAM readings
showing in the menu bar. I launched DINMM and launched my email app and
MenuMeters says I have 589MB free but DINMM says I have 419MB free.
Which one is right?

Sweet! I wrote most of this in Perl yesterday, but hadn't gotten it
quite finished.
I just tried this with a mostly loaded system and starting up the
additional apps I normally have running. I'll have to see about
shutting down tonight and seeing how much it says I need. In fact
I'll have to try it under a couple of load types. With just the
basic test I tried this morning it's obvious I need more than 512MB
(which I already knew).
