[X4U] Copying User Accounts

Looking for a bit of advice here. Been having some problems with the  
HD on my iMac that I think a good reformatting may cure (file system  
corruption; did a surface scan and it came out good). I used my PB to  
put a fresh install of Tiger on an external FW drive and used that to  
boot the iMac from. It all looks good, but now I want to get my data  
off the iMac drive and onto the external. Ideally, what I'd like to  
do is clone the user accounts to the external so that, in case  
something goes awry with the reformatting, I have all my user  
accounts available on the FW drive. I'm unsure of how to get the  
fresh OS to recognize the 3 user accounts, though. I could just  
create new accounts and copy the data,  but is there anyway to just  
copy them over intact? Also, once I get the drive reformatted and  
everything reinstalled, I'll need to copy them back over to the iMac  
drive. I may just be able to use CCC for this, and copy the whole kit  
and kaboodle. Anyone have any advice for the best way to proceed?
