[X4U] Copying User Accounts

Looking for a bit of advice here. Been having some problems with the
HD on my iMac that I think a good reformatting may cure (file system
corruption; did a surface scan and it came out good). I used my PB to
put a fresh install of Tiger on an external FW drive and used that to
boot the iMac from. It all looks good, but now I want to get my data
off the iMac drive and onto the external. Ideally, what I'd like to
do is clone the user accounts to the external so that, in case
something goes awry with the reformatting, I have all my user
accounts available on the FW drive. I'm unsure of how to get the
fresh OS to recognize the 3 user accounts, though. I could just
create new accounts and copy the data, but is there anyway to just
copy them over intact? Also, once I get the drive reformatted and
everything reinstalled, I'll need to copy them back over to the iMac
drive. I may just be able to use CCC for this, and copy the whole kit
and kaboodle. Anyone have any advice for the best way to proceed?
Thanks much!
