[X4U] Brother HL-1440 broken under 10.4.1?

Thanks Bill and Randy for your replies.  I'll give the patch a try  
and read the article.

I just updated my iBook to 10.4.1 and it prints to the Brother laser  
printer without a hitch; so it's something specific to my setup on my  
iMac.
