[X4U] slow connection

Since you have tried different ISPs there might have been a drop in the
quality of your phone line: Some extra noise will greatly handicap modem
connections.

Take your PowerBook to a friend's home and check from there. If the problem
still exists for you but not for him, then you know it must be the machine.

In that case check your modem settings.
