I'd offer another related answer to tim's...

it was posted for the same reason people ask each other to do a variety 
of things, in the hopes that the collective good will will encourage 
that thing to happen. it wasn't intended to be a spank or to get people 
to surrender their brains to the borg collective, just to be a 
reminder.

people will do what they will, but sometimes a helpful reminder can 
have a positive effect.
