I had not been informed of this article until now. I see where this  
instruction differs from what the "tech" at the University Book Store  
told me. Perhaps he just didn't want to do the extra step?

Anyway, I will do an "eject" drive before pressing the power button  
from now on.

Thanks for the heads-up. That's one of the reasons I subscribed to
