I tried locking down cookies and safari behaved badly. I tried locking Cache folder and had a similar experience I did lock the web icons folder without ill effect but that folder is now gone in Safari 3.0.4 and is replaced by a database. So, I use SafariPlus to manage cookies. Works great with the exception of 1 minor bug which is very easy to work around. (Reported bug to developer) I also set up the "reset safai" menu to delete all but cookies, forms, and saved passwords, and then use a Quickeys combination to execute that menu item when I get the urge. Keeps everything running nice. Of course, YMMV, yada yada yada..
