I have the same problem on an Intel Mac Pro; mine only occurs if I allow the machine to go to sleep. On wake-up the fan roars for a minute and a half to two minutes, sometimes longer ... it is unbelievably loud. The first time it happened I thought it was a water tanker truck having trouble on the steep hill below my house! The problem started with a firmware update earlier this year and has never been resolved; resetting the PRAM had no effect at all. Subsequent firmware and system updates have not cured it. I have temperature monitoring software, and all internal temps are well within tolerances; there is no need for the fan to run at 50x its normal speed, it just does. My solution at this point has been to simply never allow the machine to sleep. The company has been totally unresponsive even though there are hundreds of reports of this issue, if you search online; I've been a Mac user since 1986 and I've never been so disappointed in Apple.
