[X4U] Macs which support "target disk mode"

It might be. There was a gentleman (Keith) over on mac_osx Yahoo group who
encountered the same thing when trying to use Migration Assistant to his new
iMac from what I think was also an MDD G4. He never found resolution; Open
Firmware wasn't enabled on his computer. He eventually moved his stuff
manually. 

If you boot into OF, can you turn it off? Or is it already disabled?
