[X4U] Hard drive space

 From the sound of the description, it is one of two things:

Log Files - Unlikely, wouldn't shrink back when rebooting
Virtual memory cache - Likely, grows and then returns to normal size  
on reboot.

Now it will take a better Mac expert than me to explain the virtual  
memory setup on a Mac.
