[X4U] Opening Word 2007 Vista on an Intel Mac

A friends wife works at a University in Lesotho, using Word 2007 on a  
Windows Vista machine. Her husband has an Intel Macbook. She says she  
cannot open her Word docs on his Macbook if transferred to it.
Is this a Vista, Word 2007 problem or what?
