PowerBook G4 17 inch, 1GHz, Mac OS X 10.5.7 This laptop spends a lot of time recently running the fan, if that's what makes it noisy. Sometimes it gets very slow for a minute or two. (I had my hard disk replaced last month after a crash. I also sometimes have difficulty booting up - the video doesn't come on. I bought a PRAM battery from appleparts.com and had that installed - Foolish of me, I think, it made no difference - new PRAM battery as bad as the old one.) at 16.22 the system log said: > Jul 6 16:20:05 localhost com.apple.kdcmond[9197]: kdcmond cannot > retreive the computer's local Hostname , retrying .. > Jul 6 16:20:35: --- last message repeated 2 times --- > Jul 6 16:20:35 localhost com.apple.kdcmond[9197]: kdcmond cannot > retreive the computer's local Hostname , retrying .. > Jul 6 16:21:20: --- last message repeated 1 time --- > Jul 6 16:21:20 localhost com.apple.kdcmond[9197]: kdcmond cannot > retreive the computer's local Hostname , retrying .. I ran diskWarrior - nothing wrong but I rebuilt the directory anyway. I ran Applejack and restarted. Now the system log says: > Jul 6 17:14:39 localhost com.apple.kdcmond[234]: kdcmond cannot > retreive the computer's local Hostname , retrying .. > Jul 6 17:14:52 localhost kernel[0]: > IOHIDSystem::relativePointerEventGated: Capping VBL time to 830017 > (was 848478) > Jul 6 17:14:59 localhost com.apple.kdcmond[234]: kdcmond cannot > retreive the computer's local Hostname , retrying .. What is going on? Does all this mean anything to someone? What is kdcmond, and what should I do about it? Mike
