I am currently using an android phone on T-mobile because their plans are cheaper and the service is good in Topeka. And IIRC, that was the OPs original starting point - plans (and coverage) were better in his area for Android. Similarly, in the UK there seems to be an iPhone "tax" imposed by carriers which makes the iPhone more expensive to run [1]. Simon [1] I bought an unlocked iPhone, cut my UK SIM down to size and used it in the iPhone without issue. I though I had beat the system! Except for the fact that the carrier could (and did) block tethering to my computer unless I paid an extra GBP 10.00 per month. While rarely used, tethering tends be a life saver when I do need it. The iPhone went back and the SIM now is held together with sticky back plastic and resides in my Android phone. No issue with tethering there.
