[X4U] Copying Blu-ray discs

Hi

For quite some time now, I've been copying DVDs (that I own!) with Handbrake, so as to be able to watch them on my iPad and iPhone while traveling. 

How easy is this process with Blu-ray discs? With what software? And which players are Mac-compatible?

I've been looking at the BR sets that include a digital copy, but unfortunately none are compatible with the Swiss iTunes store, even though they are sold in Switzerland… go figure.
