It is well worth it. To me and to many people.
I had a G3 Wallstreet monitor crap out on me after I got a power issue resolved for $325. I'm out $325 on a hardly used Powerbook and the display no longer works (half the screen is a bunch of lines). For $300, Apple care would have taken care of that like the waranty took care of the trackpad that flaked out: Took it in and had it back, fixed, in a couple of days. No problem.
I'm going to get Applecare for my new iBook here pretty soon.
The Applecare adds value to your machine because it is transferable!
