I'm sorry, what software do you *have* to upgrade to use a G5? The 
10.2.7 update ships with the machine, and the only other 
"compatibility" updates I'm aware of (for Photoshop and Digital 
Performer) are both free (and not strictly necessary -- they are just 
speed updates).

Depends. If what you are really asking is "is the Finder multi-threaded 
at last?" then the answer is "yes."

Of course, in normal use the Finder has little need of the 2nd 
processor, but that's always been true.
