[P1] Huge speakers for little iBook?

Hi Jack

Reading the technical information from the link to your question "what is
this?" indicates a small amplifier. It is using stereo-microjack plugs (as
the headphone one on the iBook) to speakers, line connectors "in" and "out".
Translation: you can get "sound into" as well as "sound out" from the iBook
via USB. Line-connectors are the same as found on the rear of an ordinary
amplifier to select things like CD-player, sound from DVD, receiver – and in
old days – taperecorders and phono. As I see no indication of software
needed, my quess is that audioCodecs or CoreAudio components is found on the
CD. As with QuickTime some quality might be found here. But I would be
surprised if we're talking HI-FI-sound on this small piece.

The measure of 15 dB is propably what the little thying can do at best,
something like "musical dB". In real terms the amplifier is unlikely tom
produce more than something like 5 dB, which is nice in nearfield monitoring
(sitting with the iBook in front of you with small speakers attached to the
amplifier).

Compared to the build-in microspeakers on the iBook, alternatives may sound
better (they ARE very tiny); compared to the build-in amplification from the
iBook, this amplifier might sound better.

The specs are slighly better than those from i iBook. But figures doesn't
cover.

My suggestion would still be to hook your iBook to your stereo, using a
converterplug going from microjack (out of the iBook), plug a standard
RCA-cable into the converterplug ending in the AUX RCA-plug on the rear of
your stereo. It's much cheaper and the sound is far superior.

Hope this will help you: by all means – this amplifier is NOT intended for
"huge speakers for little iBook". But your little iBook does sound great,
connected to some kind of no-nonsense muscial equipment.

Flemming
